2000 - 30 Years in 30 Days

In the year 2000! In the year 2000.....

The world did not end. Thank goodness. I was working at Arden B in Woodland Hills Mall over Christmas Break and it was a big deal if the computer systems were going to be ok. They flew in corporate to upgrade our system! Ooooo. For New Years I went to Miranda's house for her parents party. I was still dating Troy and we were coming up on our 1 year anniversary. His family is from CA so he had flown there for the Holidays. He had sent me a box ahead of time with clear instructions that I couldn't open it until straight up midnight. To pass the time away till midnight Miranda, Lauren, Micah, Wes, and I began drinking some of the Ruleford famous holiday punch. So, midnight rolled around and I sat on a chair while my friends watched me open this mystery box. Inside the box was a stuff teddy bear that had a necklace on. The necklace was his Fraternity letters. A Delta Tau Delta drop. In college that was a big deal to be "dropped". I started crying...of course...and proceeded to fall off of the chair. Due to the holiday punch. It was at this point that things went south as the punch kicked in. Long story short....that story is still brought up by my friends and I still am feeling ugggggh about it. (any comments that are left with details of this event will get deleted. fyi)

So there I was, it was the year 2000 and I was a sophomore in college. I had my DTD drop to wear back to school. I don't really remember that much more about 2000. I worked at the Oaks Country Club that summer as the bar cart girl. That was the best job ever! So much fun. I didn't get a chance to scan any pictures for this blog which I know would help me remember things. Hopefully I'll get a chance to do that tomorrow. - i just added these pictures. They have nothing to do with any of the stories, but i found them.

I can really only think about one thing right now as I'm trying to do this. One week from tomorrow I will be in Vegas. It came so fast. We booked the trip last October and it seemed soooooo far away. Now it is less than 10 days away!

I've got to go shopping for my birthday dress.

1999 - 30 Years in 30 Days

This is the year I met my college boyfriend Troy.
We actually met during Homecoming of 1998 but didnt start dating until 1999. By this point, 2nd Semester, I was full swing into college and the sorority. Date Parties, Functions, going to class in my PJ's. You name it...I did it. I remember Clancy, ShuStar, Angela, and I would get in Clancy's car and drive around the campus, windows down, blasting music. We would go to The Barn and get our 32oz Dr. Peppers. Everyone knows Calvin has the best Dr. Peppers.

Here are some pictures of my life in college in 1999....that I can post. As I can't really tell that many stories. They just wouldn't make sense unless you were there.

Pomping during Homecoming. I look back and the hours we put in for that, wow! And we liked it.

This my favorite picture of Katie Kegs and me. See hates it and will probably kill me for posting it, but ooooh that was a fun Date Party. It was Mekong Delta. We all wore camo and partied in a barn. Natty Light was everywhere. Oh' and 19 is the legal drinking again in college, right?

This last one is at Troy's formal in KC. Slightly funny b/c his hand is clearly on my rear....

1998 - 30 Years in 30 Days

On January 28, 1998 I got my acceptance letter to OSU. I was soooo happy. It was the only school I had applied to and it was were my Mom, Aunt, and Grandma had gone. I just wanted to be a Cowboy!
Our German Club did an exchange program with classes in German and my exchange student was Katrin. She was so sweet, but she thought it was odd that in America you couldn't have your boyfriend spend the night at your parents. Oh' Katrin, silly German. Here is several pictures from my Senior Book of their stay.

Next was Basketball Homecoming. That was fun, just like any homecoming. It's funny how in High School things seem sooooo important and then looking back it is nothing. Here I am in all my glory getting my crown and kiss from my friend Brad.

For Christmas in 1997 Santa had brought our whole family a cruise for Spring Break! I had never been on one, but my parents are avid crusiers. We went to San Juan, The Bahamas, and Haiti. It's strange for me now to look at my Haiti pictures knowing that what I saw/visited is gone. Scary! And the photo of the beach that is behind the other photo of the Spring Break sign...that is real. I took it in Haiti. This is another page from my Senior Book I made.

After that, there really wasn't much left in High School but to graduate. And we did. Wes and I were going to OSU while Miranda, Micah, and Lauren were going to TU.

That summer it was OUR turn to go to Europe for the exchange student program. We all packed up and spent a little over a month visiting Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria. Wow the memories of that. Lauren, Miranda, and I would leave at night and just walk around the towns, finding pubs and what not. We were for sure naive America Girls, but HEY...we are alive so it's ok.

Does anyone else remember this guy???!! He was on the same bus as us when we would do our tours and he was ALWAYS running behind. Literally. He would run to catch the bus in his fanny pack. Love Him.

I got back from my Eurpoe trip and worked a month at Woody's waiting tables in Jenks before it was time to go to college. I was not a good waitress. That was my one and only time to do that. While I was on my trip, my mom signed me up for RUSH. Ugggggggh, I so didn't want to be in a sorority. But she had done it, so had my aunt and grandma...blah, blah. "Just try it for me please" she said. If you don't like it you don't have to do it. So I went through RUSH. 7 days later......Loooooooooooved It!

I pledged Gamma Phi Beta at Oklahoma State University and made some of the best lifelong friends ever. The next 11 years are filled with trips, memories, hearbreak and all that good Lifetime Movie sorority crap. I feel super old that I was in college 11 years ago. Wow. Here are some of my first Party Pixs with the girls I hung out with 24/7. Angela, Katie, Sarah, and Allison. Or as I like to call them: Malloy, Katie-Kegs, ShuStar, and Clancy. 1998 was a very exciting and life changing year for me. It was the start of soooo much! I loved this year. Thank you 1998.

1994 to 1997 - 30 years in 30 Days

Ok - I OBVIOUSLY slacked off the past 3 days. After several emails, I will continue even though I already quit. But in my defense, I had tickets to the Dallas Starz game on Friday, went shopping on Saturday, and Sunday I slept on the sofa. As you can see, I was CLEARLY too busy. I have the worst reasons for things. Here you go!

1994

14 years old here! I was in 8th grade this year. I think....yes. 8th grade. I really don't remember much from this grade. I was just trying to get by without looking like a total goober.

You can tell I have a huge look of, "really mom?" on my face. I look so annoyed, yet smiling. And lookey there! I got my braces off that year. Pearly Whites, all straight and ready to go. I had my braces literally 2 years to the week. I was so happy to have them off. Things at home I'm assuming were the same as I have no stories of anything there. Nothing life changing. Jill was 16 so you can imagine how fun THAT was. 2 teenage girls, 1 14 and the other 16. You could say we fought...just a little.

1995

Freshman!!! I'm 15 now. I remember this year for one reason. It was April 15, 1995 and I was in the front lobby of the jr high. I was out there with some people from StuCo. I don't remember who, sorry. But we were painting the back drop to the Freshman Dance for pictures. It was a luau. We were laying on the floor painting when Mr. Cox came out and told us that we needed to go back to our rooms. A bombing had happened in OKC. My first thought was my Grandma Stone. She lived in OKC. My Mom worked at the school library so I asked if I could go see her as I was a little scared. He let me go, thank you! My mom was in the back office of the libary with the TV on. All the Libary Aides were there too watching the news. It was so scary to see the images and to hear the news reporters try to talk. My mom called my Grandma and she was ok, home, but had felt the explosion. She had falling a couple of weeks ago and broken her collar bone so we were a little concerned. I went back to my classroom and everyone was buzzing about what was going on. Here is a picture of the building. It's hard to look at, at least for me as I remember it so clearly.

The next week, we needed to go see Grandma and take her back to the doctor for her check-up on her collar-bone. I went with my Mom. We were driving downtown and my mom asked me if I wanted to drive over where it was. Not in the gawking way, but in the, "we are here, you will never (hopefully) see something like this, for history/education, do you want to see it" I was scared, but curious. She asked again to see if I was ok. I said yes. She said ok. That was the worst choice both of us had made. It was awful. We both started crying and got past it to my Grandmas's house as soon as we could. I can still see it from the window view in my head. I think that is why looking at pictures makes it so real.

Anyone who lost someone, be it friend or family or knew someone that was injured. I think about everyone every year on that day and send out my thoughts and prays.

O-kay, on a lighter note. Here is 15 year old Sarah and our Wonderful Family Dog Grover!! You might remember him from the 1982 blog. He is still here!

1996

Finally I'm 16 and can drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrive. I got my Grandpa Gibson's 1978 Baby Blue Buick Regal. Oh' it was pimping. I hated/loved that car. I hated it b/c it was old and a Grandpa car, but I loved it b/c it was really nice inside and out. Because, let's face it...old people's cars are so well kept! I was still playing basketball at this point. Really LOVED it.

I had my 16th birthtday party in my basement. This is the only picture my Mom could find to send me. Our basement was so dank and dirty! Looking back, wow - how embarrasing!!

Jill graduated this year. She got a soccer scholorship to NSU. I was very proud of her and excited, but was very sad too. I was a only child in the house for the first time in my life. It was strange.

This was the year that changed a lot for me in basketball. Coach Wallis was no longer my basketball coach for the 1st time ever. We had a new coach. There was a scrimmage before the real season started and I was trying really hard to do good. This new coach didn't know me or anything about me. I had to show her what I could do and how much I loved the game. I loved it too much that day. I planted my left foot to save the ball from going out of bounds. As I did...SNAP...my ACL tore right in half. Literally, right in half. I still have 2 screws in my left knee. That put the end to me and basketball. At least my Junior Year it did. That was really hard, but one thing helped, my sister.

She had done the same injury 1 month earlier in college soccer. We had the same doctor and everything. I had her to go through the rehab and everything, even though she was at college doing it, she would call and ask how I was and teach me over the phone what the rehab folks there were telling her. College sports rehab is always better than just regular. By May of 1997 (next year I know) I was back playing and I give a lot of that credit to my sister.

1997

The beginning of my senior year. I was totally over my knee at this point, so that story is done. I got to play my senior year...but it was really different. I just couldn't move as fast or turn as quick. It really bummed me out. Oh' Well. One thing I haven't really done in these blogs is talk a lot about my friends. I have mentioned one here and there, but didn't really go into any long stories. This is a long story. Several years back I had become good friends with Miranda, Micah, and Wes. We all had Coach Hendo's class together and really hit it off. We were involved in StuCo, German Club, stuff like that so we had similar interest. The summer of 1997 we had Miranda's parents rent us a hotel in OKC and we went there for the night. We thought that was so cool. We almost got killed by a tire on ther way there, hahahah, I forgot about that until just now. Anyway, so it was fall of our senior year and we were sitting together at our table in the Commans Area. Well, we are sitting there and we see this girl that we had never seen before sit down at table with a bunch of people who played in the band. She sits there a while and we over hear them ask her what instrument she played. When she replied she doesn't play, they asked her why she was sitting there. She picked up her food and left the table. We told her to come sit with us....and that my friend....is how I met Lauren. Awwwww...my little Lauren.

We laugh about that story still to this day. How she got rejected. Not really, but it was funny. It was the best thing ever. To this day Miranda, Wes, Lauren, Micah and I are all still close friends. Just this past August Preston and I came into town and all of us met over at Lauren's for dinner. I love my friends. That is 1997, but I have to leave you with a great photo of me all dressed up to go the Winter Ball. Classy blue silk dress that could have been a nighty for all I know. Thanks Mom!

30 Years in 30 Days......over

I just can't keep up with it anymore. Lauren, I feel like I have let you down. :( You are doing soooo good! But I...I just can't. so - there are 13 days until my birthday. yeah.

1993- 30 Years in 30 Days

WARNING!!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!!

I turned 13 this year.

I 100% have that awkward teenager look.

I don't even know what to do with myself.

In the fall of 1993 I started Jr. High when Bixby actually HAD a Jr. High. Now there are like 5 million different schools. A East/North/South...don't get it. I loved going to school at this point. We had lockers! And you had like 6 classes that you rotated. I was really excited because I had gotten to watch Jill do this for the past year and thought it looked/sounded pretty cool. I got my first C this year in Geography. I'm still REALLY bad about it. If you gave me a blank map of the world, or even the US for that matter....I couldn't get all the states correctly written in the spot.

Here's to 1993 and being awkward!

1992 - 30 Years in 30 Days

It's braces time. I got my braces spring break of my 6th grade year. It was such a strange feeling to have them on. Dr. Katz was my orthodontist. Lindsey White and I had the same one which was really odd since his office was all the way in Tulsa off of like 41st and Harvard. What are the odds of 2 girls in Bixby, OK going to the same ortho in Tulsa?! I didn't mind having braces after a while. I liked going every month to get new colored rubber bands. Depending on the season. Dr. Katz told me that I followed all the rules and didn't eat things I shouldn't, I would get them off in 2 years. If I did anything bad, I would have them longer. I didn't want them any longer than I had too so I was strict. No gum, pop, popcorn, biting into an apple, corn on the cob (that was hard during the green corn festival), taffy...all the good stuff. I had to stop. School was out and it was summer time. This was a really fun summer.

My Mom's sister's family lives in California and we flew out there to visit. That was my first time to go that far on a plane and to go California. We went to San Fran, did the whole trolley thing and fishermans wharf. All the hot spots. Alcatraz was the coolest.

Don't really have much else on this year. Just getting taller!
